Dear oh dear, what ever happened to the lack of substance in this blog?

Your faithful author is concerned. Maybe even a tad worried. Seems a new generation of intellectual cats with their political opinions and knowledge of topics outside of fast food and commercial television have gained ambient share of the site.

I blame myself. The leadership model that I have chosen to adopt in governing the use and content of the blog has been my downfall. Instead of ruling with an iron fist and laying down strict rules and guidelines in order to maintain the light hearted, jovial, Seinfeld-esque vibe that this blog was always intended to have, I have delved into the dangerous waters of allowing “free speech”.

In the words of the great Kent Brockman: “I’ve said it before, and I’ll say it again people….democracy just doesn’t work.”

Be careful, gentlemen. While your political rants are very eloquently written, well informed, and make some fine points, I cannot help but sense a tangible departure from the atmosphere that made this blog so enjoyable and unique in the first place.

Having said that, as the grandfather of the blog, I have made it my policy not to delete or alter any posts that any contributor chooses to make. I merely wanted to outline my thoughts on its current state.

Post on, people, but don’t forget the foundations this thing was built upon.

It is the essence of irony, that the very presence of substance to this blog has somehow removed the original substance of the blog itself.

Or something.

I should accept some responsibility for partially inciting such needless intellectualism. I did apologise at the outset.

The fact is that the post which has no doubt caused the concern of the Moff has just taken the debate one step further for no good reason.

WHAT IS THE FUCKING RELEVANCE OF THE HOW THE US NAME THEIR ACTS SCHMIDT? It has no meaning to us.

I know my own post leads in this direction, but I reatined a strong sense of historical parody and relevance to a debate which will continue long into Australia's future.

We are witnessing, Tim, the thick edge of the wedge. Stand up and show your leadership qualities. Shout down that man!

excuse me RE but you did not retain any parody at all. And no relevance. My blog was not supposed to be relevant, it was supposed to be an interesting observation to continue to show how stupid americans are. All you dicks need to learn to read and not take evrything as if it was some attempt at being world changing.

WANKER

who votes we ban the schmidt?

OK "anonymous", let's pretend for a second your name is Andrew S. No, wait, A Schmidt.

Firstly Mr Schmidt, the relevance is clearly to be seen in issues surrounding Australia's potential republican reform and whether or not we should adopt a publicly elected head of state.

Secondly as far as an interesting observation goes, yours was barely an observation, let alone interesting.

Did it add any value? no. Did it prompt in the reader's mind some greater, or more heightened state of contemplation of the world around him? no. Did it inspire in him the desire to further his knowledge of the topic at hand so that he might one day contribute positively to this society and the issues surrounding the topic of choice? no.

All it did was waste space.

FAIL.

obviously I'm not the opnly one who thinks so. I would have thought the recent attention that has been paid to the security of your tenure with regards to posting rights as being indicative of the general feeling of discontent with where you have opted to take your so called "artistic licence".

Finally, if we need to learn to read and not take everthing as attempting to be world-changing, the you should perhaps not try to write like that.

I think a one month suspension seems fair.
